      What is a speculum?

      A speculum, often referred to as a duckbill, is used in medicine as an instrument for opening and viewing the body cavities. Specula usually consist of two smooth blades that separate when the handle is squeezed. A gynecologist uses this aid, among other things, when taking a smear, in which cells are taken from the cervix. Nowadays, a speculum is also increasingly used to role-play between doctor and patient in one's own bedroom.

      Various specula are available, for both vaginal and anal use . The material and how the instrument should be used can also differ per version. Most specula are usually made of stainless steel.       Who is a duckbill for?

      Most people will know a duckbill mainly from their doctor or gynecologist . Most women are not exactly looking forward to having to sit on the treatment table with either of these two.
