      What is a speculum?

      A speculum, often referred to as a duckbill, is used in medicine as an instrument for opening and viewing the body cavities. Specula usually consist of two smooth blades that separate when the handle is squeezed. A gynecologist uses this aid, among other things, when taking a smear, in which cells are taken from the cervix. Nowadays, a speculum is also increasingly used to role-play between doctor and patient in one's own bedroom.

      Various specula are available, for both vaginal and anal use . The material and how the instrument should be used can also differ per version. Most specula are usually made of stainless steel.       Who is a duckbill for?

      Most people will know a duckbill mainly from their doctor or gynecologist . Most women are not exactly looking forward to having to sit on the treatment table with either of these two. Many of them experience the visit to the doctor as uncomfortable when a speculum is involved. They fear any pain that may come with the vagina spreading. In addition, it can evoke feelings of humiliation when a stranger suddenly starts peeking into your vagina. These 'nasty' feelings are experienced as very exciting within the BDSM world. A speculum is often used in BDSM during an exciting role play between Dominant and submissive.       Medical Play

      Playing Doctor often involves an intimate examination, with the dominant partner sometimes performing quasi-medical procedures on the submissive patient.
