      For some toys, getting the chance to test them really makes you happy. The Melt from We-Vibe is one of them. I've been intrigued by the concept of We-Vibe vibrators from the beginning. It took me a long time to figure out how it worked.

      I've since got the hang of it and I am glad that they are still innovating and trying to improve their concept. This version, with sucking feature, is definitely an example of that. Instead of just vibrating, it also offers this type of stimulation. The toy can also be operated using an app. These are two things which work really well individually. However, I'm not convinced they're going to work well together.

      First impression

      The Melt vibrator comes in a cardboard box with the We-Vibe's lilac and pink color scheme. There is a picture of the toy on the front of the box and there is an illustration with user instructions on the back. The box contains the vibrator, a charging cable, a small sachet with lubricant in it and a storage bag. The toy is salmon-colored and feels robust. You can charge it using the magnetic charger. It has two buttons on the top; a + and a - button. You can use the buttons to turn it on and off again, and to adjust the intensity of the suction and the vibrations. You cannot adjust these settings independently; more suction means more vibrations. Consequently, this toy isn't completely silent. The vibrations, especially, make a kind-of rumbling noise. They do, however, feel good and add an extra dimension when using this toy.

      The Melt is fully covered in a soft silicone and, in contrast to a lot of other sucking vibrators, it doesn't have a loose cap attached to the top. The advantage is that you won't lose or break the cap; the drawback is that you need to be lucky enough for it to fit around your clitoris.

      Onto the app. Uhm. It's fairly easy to link the Melt to your smartphone using its Bluetooth connection and the free WeConnect app. I thought I might be able to create my own patterns but was somewhat disappointed. This option isn't available. All you can do is control the suction and the vibrations. You can do this using your phone or your partner's one.

      You know what, I get the distinct impression that We-Vibe developed this toy and then sat down to think about what they could add to it. How can we make this toy even more attractive? I know: an app!

      It has zero added value as far as I'm concerned. Yes, you can get your partner to control it during BDSM play. However, it's not the easiest toy to connect to something and there are plenty of other remote operated toys out there which are much more suited to this purpose. Nope. I like gadgets and vibrators with apps but it feels completely redundant here.

      I feel the same way about using it. Yes, the vibrations and suction are great. It is relatively easy to operate and easily makes me climax. I definitely don't have any complaints there. As a partner vibrator? Yes, it is just a bit better designed for this application than my regular sucker vibrators, so no complaints there. But my partner really didn't feel like operating an app to vary the vibrations on my clit while doing the deed. His mind was on other things. It even failed during our test-run. However, I did manage to have a great orgasm which is usually difficult with just penetration. So yeah, in that sense it does what it's supposed to do.

      Conclusion

      I'm not one hundred percent convinced by the We-Vibe Melt. Yes, it is a really nice product, it's well made and it gives me great orgasms. But do I think it's good value for money? Not entirely. I mean, the app functionality is completely redundant. It doesn't add a single thing. The suction is nice, but I can get that from cheaper vibrators. And frankly, I can also use those cheaper toys during penetrative sex.  If you don't have any toys with Pleasure-Air technology, you might want to consider this one. It may also be worth it if you don't yet have a couple's vibrator. But it definitely isn't at the top of my list.
